Armistice Day commemorated the end of World War I. An armistice was declared at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of the year 1918. In 1938, Congress made it a federal holiday. In 1947, the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor all who have served.
Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day in May. Veterans Day honors all who have served in the military. Memorial Day honors those who have died in service to the nation in the armed forces.
VA Home Loans. Veterans have access to favorable mortgage terms through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. A veteran must have served for a minimum of 90 days in time of war or 181 days in peace. Reservists, national guard troops and surviving spouses also may be eligible.
