There are objects we use daily with a singular purpose, not realizing they have other applications. One of those multitasking items is the dryer sheet. Yes, one thin sheet makes your freshly laundered clothes smell amazing, but did you know this product has several other uses? Here are eight versatile tips for using dryer sheets.
What makes a dryer sheet so useful?
Dryer sheet fibers have been treated with scented fabric softener. When the sheet is tossed into the dryer at the start of a load, the heat of the machine releases the fabric softener, spreading it to your clothes. This makes them smooth, soft, and infused with that comforting smell.
Yet the sheets have other surprising uses:
- Dryer sheets stuffed into your shoes absorb foot odor and replace it with a pleasing scent.
- Dryer sheets also benefit other items that develop odors. Rub down the inside of your suitcase or dirty clothes hamper, or leave a few sheets inside closets, drawers, diaper bags, or athletic bags to freshen up the smells.
- Dryer sheets reduce static cling for your laundry; when static causes your hair to stand up in winter, massage your hairbrush with a dryer sheet. Now your hair won’t raise like you’ve seen a ghost!
- Wipe your TV screen with a sheet; it will no longer attract dust from static electricity.
- Dryer sheet fabric will pick up pet hair from garments and upholstery. Likewise, dryer sheets will pick up dust from furniture, and the softener creates a polished sheen.
- Use a dryer sheet to wipe the vinyl surfaces of your car’s interior to remove dust and leave that pleasing aroma.
- Set a few dryer sheets around your deck or patio to enjoy insect-free evenings outside.
- Dryer sheets can remove burnt or stuck-on food from pots and pans. Place a dryer sheet in the pan, cover it with warm water, and soak for several hours or overnight. The bad bits will easily scrub right off!
